“16 types of Prayer – #10 Fasting"

Key Verse: Joel 1:14

Yes, fasting is a type of prayer. There are many that choose to shy away from this form of prayer. There is alot that could be said on the different forms of fasting. It makes me think of one literally presenting their body as a living sacrifice before the Lord. It's a way of humbling ones self. It helps to mortify the unhealthy deeds (habits, desires) of our bodies. Fasting sharpens your ear to hear the voice of the Lord more clearly while at the same time sensitizing your inner man to his prompting, unction or leading.

There are some kinds of issues that can only be moved by fasting. (see Matthew 17:20-22 - Amplified Bible) I personally know of someone who uses this as a form of ministry. Let me explain. When this person hears of someone who may need deliverance from a issue (sexual immorality, drugs, gambling, alcoholism) or say healing (cancer, aids, diabetes) in their body. They discreetly choose to fast for 3 days all the while praying for a divine intervention for that particular person/situation. No fan fare or hype. It's all before the eyes of the Lord. Then when they sense a release they go visit that person to pray the prayer of faith. To God's glory many have been healed or set free by the Power of the Living God through this persons selfless ministry.

Please allow me to leave a word of caution with you as it relates to fasting. Seek a covering from delegated authority such as your local Pastor when attempting any type of extended fast (more than 3 days). Why? Extended fasting leads you into another realm in the Lord which is great. However there are dark forces that attempt to transform themselves into angels of light attempting to entertain, entice, seduce or deceive folks off their Divine path. Delegated authority is in place help you weed out, pluck, shift or discern through these types of issues.
